Alabaster and metal: a timeless pairing
Setting alabaster in a metal frame is a tradition that reached its height in 1920s and ’30s France, when Art Deco designers paired thin panels of the translucent stone with hand-worked iron and bronze to create some of the era’s most striking lamps. The appeal is in the contrast: dark, solid metal grounds the design and gives it structure, while the stone above glows soft and warm, so the light seems to come from the material itself. Cut into flat, angled panels, alabaster catches light differently on every plane, with some faces glowing brightly and others holding a deeper amber tone, so the lamp shifts in character as you move around it. Each panel is cut from natural stone, giving every lamp its own veining and color. To keep it at its best, use a cool-running LED bulb and dust the stone and metal with a soft, dry cloth.

Is the shade real alabaster?
Yes, the Sylvain’s shade is cut from genuine natural alabaster, set on a matte black metal frame and tapered base. Because it’s natural stone, each shade has its own color, veining and translucency, so yours will be one of a kind and may vary slightly from the photos.
How big is it, and where does it work best?
It stands 19.7″ (50 cm) tall and 16.5″ (42 cm) wide, a substantial statement size. It’s ideal for a console, sideboard, entryway table or living room side table, where it can be the focal point of the room. On a smaller nightstand it may feel large, so measure your surface first.
What bulb does it use?
It takes a G9 bulb and works on standard 110–240V. A warm white LED G9 bulb (2700–3000K) brings out the alabaster’s soft, golden glow and runs cool, which is gentler on natural stone. It’s designed for indoor, dry rooms only.
