Its famous veining forms during that same process, as minerals such as iron oxides and clay flow through the stone and settle into streaks and swirls, which is why no two pieces of marble are ever exactly alike. People have treasured it for thousands of years: Michelangelo carved his David from a single block of Carrara marble, and the Taj Mahal is clad in gleaming white marble from Makrana in India. Marble is also naturally cool to the touch, because its density draws warmth away from your hand, one of the little qualities that make it feel so luxurious. Today, it’s cut with diamond-tipped saws and shaped with water to reveal the pattern inside, and the Ottavia turns it into a solid marble ring that frames a warm, integrated LED. Will my Ottavia look exactly like the photos?
Every Ottavia is made from natural marble, so the veining on yours will be unique. The color, pattern and density of the veins vary from piece to piece, just as they do in any natural stone, so your pendant may look slightly different from the photos. That individuality is part of what makes natural marble so special: no one else will have the exact same piece.
How is it installed, and how high should it hang?
The Ottavia is hardwired to a ceiling junction box, and we recommend installation by a licensed electrician. Because natural stone is heavier than a typical shade, it should be mounted to a properly secured electrical box. Its hanging length adjusts up to 68.9″ (175 cm). Over a kitchen island or dining table, a common guideline is to hang the bottom of the pendant about 30–36″ above the surface; in a bedroom or entryway, simply set it where it feels balanced in the space.
What kind of light does it give?
The Ottavia has a built-in warm LED, so there’s no bulb to buy or replace. It gives a soft, restrained ambient glow that’s perfect for setting a mood, lighting approximately 32–54 sq ft (3–5 m²) per pendant. For a kitchen island or longer dining table, we recommend hanging two or three in a row for balanced, beautiful light. It’s designed for indoor, dry spaces.
