The Allegra brings together two materials with long, storied histories. Its backplate is genuine marble, a stone formed over millions of years as limestone is recrystallized by heat and pressure deep in the earth, with veins drawn by minerals that flowed through it as it formed. Prized since antiquity for its beauty and permanence, marble is dense, naturally cool to the touch and never patterned the same way twice, so every Allegra has its own unique veining. Its globes are made of opal glass, also known as opaline or milk glass, which gets its soft, milky glow from tiny particles added to the molten glass that scatter light rather than letting it pass straight through. Opaline glass became a great fashion in 19th-century France, where it was used for elegant vases and lamps, and its glowing globes later became a signature of Art Deco lighting. That light-scattering quality is exactly what makes it so beautiful in a sconce: instead of a harsh point of light, an opal globe glows evenly from edge to edge, giving a soft, low-glare radiance that’s easy on the eyes. Which size should I choose?
All three sizes are 4.7″ (12 cm) wide. The Single (13.8″ / 35 cm tall, one globe) is a refined accent for bedsides and narrow hallways. The Double (17.3″ / 44 cm tall, two globes) offers a little more height and light for living rooms and entryways. The Triple (23.6″ / 60 cm tall, three globes) makes a bold vertical statement beside a fireplace, a tall mirror or a staircase. In pairs, any size creates a beautifully balanced look.
Does it need bulbs, and can it be dimmed?
No bulbs needed. The Allegra has an integrated LED built in, so it’s ready to glow as soon as it’s installed and there’s nothing to replace. Its opal glass globes soften the light into an even, low-glare glow. The Allegra is not dimmable, so it’s best paired with a standard on/off wall switch.
How is it installed, and where can I use it?
The Allegra is hardwired and wall mounted, and we recommend installation by a licensed electrician. Because natural marble is heavier than a typical sconce, it should be mounted to a properly secured electrical box. It works with US 110–120V homes. It’s rated IP20 for indoor, dry locations only, so it’s beautiful in bedrooms, hallways, living rooms and entryways, but not suited to showers or other damp areas.
